Thar Desert – main gateways to the desert

    by globetravelholidays February 27, 2019
    written by globetravelholidays

The Thar Desert stretches from northeast Rajasthan to Pakistan over an area of over 200,000 square km. Nicknamed the “Great Indian Desert,” it is dotted with remote villages and two cities including Jaisalmer, one of the main gateways to the desert and part of Honeymoon & Romantic Packages in india. This desert offers breathtaking views of its sand dunes and vast plains stretching to infinity.

The sand dunes of the Thar Desert are continually changing and taking on new forms. The sand makes all types of sounds and also creates an eerie silence. This region receives insufficient rain, with average annual rainfall ranging between 100-500mm. The creeping sand, the changing dunes, and the warm atmosphere is a challenge for the villagers to survive. However, the majestic desert has succeeded in offering a culture that is still alive nowadays. To get an idea of this region, camel safaris can provide you with adventures by providing you with details of villagers’ way of life and cultural heritage. The desert is bounded by a swamp known as Rann of Kutch on the south and by the Indus River on the west. The terrain is composed of sand with scattered brush and a little vegetation.

Jodhpur to Jaisalmer region is a part of the Desert National Park. All visitors to the district must have a special entrance permit.

Due to the proximity of the park to the India-Pakistan border, it is essential that foreign tourists obtain a special permit from the Jaisalmer District Magistrate to visit the area.

    Best time to visit

It is best visited between November and early March to avoid high temperatures of summer which reach at least mid-40s.

    How to reach

Jaisalmer is about 600 km away from Jaipur. It is possible to take a bus to Jaisalmer from Jodhpur and also Bikaner. There is also a daily bus from Jaipur.

There is direct train service from Delhi which reaches Jaisalmer via Jaipur and Jodhpur.

    Things to see and do

Jaisalmer Fort was built by Maharaja Jaisal in 1156. It is located on a small hill, and the entire city is situated around the fort. It is one of the few forts in India where the general population is allowed to live in houses inside the fort and is best part of India Honeymoon & Romantic Packages.

Also known as the golden fort, it is one of the biggest fortresses in the world and is a huge tourist attraction during best Honeymoon & Romantic Packages in india. Built in the 12th century, it glows golden due to the color of sandstone. It stands on top of the Trikulla Hills in the Thar Desert. There are four main entrances guarded by huge cannons. Inside there is a vast royal palace, havelis, temples, and a museum.

Like a thousand and one-night tale, the Jaisalmer Fort has fascinated travelers on cheap Honeymoon & Romantic Packages in india. Its construction began in the 12th century. Fort Jaisalmer is surrounded by a hundred bastions that marry the walls of the hill on which it is perched. There is a mix of Islamic architecture and Rajput. A quarter of the population of Jaisalmer lives inside the fort. It is home to the Royal Palace (Raj Mahal), beautiful Jain and Hindu temples, and a host of stalls and shops of all kinds. Some charming hotels occupy the ramparts of the city. You will enjoy memorable sunsets from your bastion at time of honeymoon tour packages in india.

Visit the Gadi Sagar Lake –

A break full of calm and serenity

This majestic reservoir located southeast of Jaisalmer was, until 1965, the only water supply in the city. Built in 1367, its importance was such that the inhabitants made it a sacred place. It is surrounded by many small temples and small shrines. The location is charming for Honeymoon. It attracts many birds, and it is good to spend a few hours, quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Jaisalmer.

Tour the havelis of Jaisalmer –

Discover the sublime havelis of the desert

You must absolutely discover at least 3 splendid havelis of Jaisalmer at time of Honeymoons. The first is Patwon Ki Haveli, probably the most extensive and most impressive! This is a set of five havelis commissioned by wealthy banker Jain in 1800. Its construction would have lasted 55 years! The second is the Nathmal Ki Haveli, built in the 19th century and home to ministers and senior officials. The third is the Salam Singh Ki Haveli, built in 1815 by the prime minister of the kingdom. It has 38 balconies, all different! Its facade resembles the bow of a ship.

    Khuri Village –

A village of the desert and sand dunes

Famous for its dunes, Khuri is a small village situated nearly 50 km from Jaisalmer. Far less known than Sam’s dunes, the dunes of Khuri offer a much more pleasant experience if you are travelling on honeymoon packages. After discovering the city of Jaisalmer, go on a camel safari to explore the Thar Desert in all its splendor.

    Desert Festival –

The Desert Festival is an annual three-day celebration in Jaisalmer held in the winter months especially February to present the rich culture, tradition, and talent of the great Indian desert. Rajasthani men and tall, beautiful women dressed in their shiny costumes dance and sing the enduring ballads of courage, romance, and tragedy. Traditional musicians play soulful tunes. The high points of the festival are – puppeteers, acrobats, camel show, camel racing, camel polo, traditional procession, camel ridden band, folk dances, etc. Visitors to the fair can understand and enjoy the thrill and taste of centuries of tradition and be a part of Honeymoon & Romantic Packages india.

    Conclusion

Experiencing the safari in the desert of Rajasthan is one of the most unique moments of a tourist trip to this arid region for Loving Honeymoons. If you want to be part of this unique experience, you should visit the golden city of Jaisalmer. You can ride a camel, camp in and around the desert, work together and experience the culture.
